Vico Persson

Vico Persson is a visual artist based in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2025, he was a guest artist at the Boghossian Foundation's Villa Empain in Brussels. 
 

After graduating from the Fine Arts department at the Rietveld Academy, where he worked with sculpture and video installation, Vico attended the post-graduate Fine Arts program at the Dutch Art Institute. There, he became interested in curating. This led to a career on the organizational side of art production. During these years, he abandoned his own art practice, in order to focus on the creative aspects of working with other artists. He started writing for Artmatter, curated numerous exhibitions, was commissioned as exhibition designer for the Anni Albers exhibtion "Touching Vision" at the Guggenheim Museum, and gave workshops in prisons, homeless people's centres, as well as in art academies, and at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. He was also running the ephemeral curating project Transient Projects To People which had several pop-up locations in Paris and abroad.  

In 2022, after several years of working collaboratively  in Paris and Internationally, he moved to Belgium and returned to his art studio. There, he works across several media, including photography, painting, drawing, assemblage art, and collage. 
 

His collage series "Forms of Residue" is an ongoing production of works, started in 2022, in which he transforms leftover materials - such as food packaging and the last bit of residue paint - into abstract creations. This series of works is a playful comment to our throw-away culture, and play with thoughts around notions of absence, presence, and identity in a continuous manner that refers to journaling. 

Other ongoing collage series are "Double Truth" and "Twin Flowers":  Here, the artist combines actual photos of real subjects with images of their AI-generated counterparts, to question our perception of reality and the increasing digitalisation of our world. 

Since 2025, Vico also makes sculptural installations, combining old, recycled objects with wood, clay and paint.

During the last two years, Vico has been a resident at the Boghossian Foundation's Villa Empain (Brussels) and B.A.D. Foundation (Rotterdam), and has participated in numerous exhibitions in venues such as NDSM Fuse (Amsterdam) and Ghent Design Museum (Belgium).
